Chanel x Supermarket Sweep #PFW

What did Suzy Menkes say to Cara Develvigne at the Grand Palais? Want some Lait du Coco with those Coco Pops?

Karl has seriously out done himself with the setting of his Fall 2014 collection this Paris Fashion Week, transforming the main hall of Paris’ iconic Grand Palais into an entire Supermarket (which should be named Karl-mart). Of course Karl never does anything in half measures, this supermarket had it all: a fruits and vegetable section, canned goods, a liquor isle, and a home improvement department all in witty clever packaging.

Products – conjured up by Stéfan Lubrina – included fit aid kits, “Boite a Bobos de Coco”,  “Boy” hair mousse for men with the tag line “pour rasage peau d’humeur sauvage” and the “So Chic” beaux ballets, naturally the bottled water “Eau du Chanel” took the audience by storm, but it was the Chanel chainsaw that really stole the show with the iconic leather and chain strap of a Chanel bag as the teeth of the not-so-dangerous power tool.

Okay okay enough of the set. This collection was an extension of this couture show earlier this year with the same hourglass feminine silhouette, this time mixed with brightly coloured and metallic tweeds, sweatpants and of course those Chanel sneakers which were extremely welcomed by fans of the house after his show in January. This time taking it a step further and also introducing the low top lace up boot which will no doubt be on many an A-lister’s foot in a matter of weeks.

Adding onto the sporty casual vibe as seen in his last few RTW collections, Lagerfeld adds yet another layer of urban cool with slouchy sweatpants, hole filled knitwear and iridescent leggings.

So now it’s safe to say that the accessories department had a great deal of fun with the collection. Chain metal shopping baskets were crafted from iconic Chanel leather and chain straps and the wheeled shoppers were aptly quilted, whilst fun touches including Chanel candy necklaces and the plastic wrap purse were all delightfully inventive.

“Why a supermarket? It is something of today’s life and even people who dress at Chanel go there — it’s a modern statement for expensive things,” said Largerfeld.  

This collection was a real Supermarket Sweep for Chanel.

Despite being on campus far more often than I actually like, its sunny afternoons like this that just make everything look just so beautiful. The warm glow of the sun, and sitting outside to have lunch can only mean one thing, summer is coming. Boy oh boy can I not wait to not have to wear at least 4 layers and just leave the house in nothing by shots and a tee. Heaven. Despite being back in the library this Sunday afternoon I have had a rather wonderful weekend, hope all of you guys have too.

PS. My lovely friend Kassie bought me back this cap from New York, and whenever I have it on, I get a constant reminder of how much I need to get back to the wonderful city. Gotta dream big.

The final day in the studio this semester before Christmas break, and managed to make a gorgeous pair of cigarette pants to match my baroque blaze. I love making my own clothes and knowing that no one else will have the same item as me, I really don't know why I don't do it more often. So so tired and cannot wait to snuggle under my duvet amongst my pillow mountain and sleep all my worries away.

Hazy Days

Today was officially Autumn. Waking up with a horrid grey haze out of my window which did not shift one bit all day. I felt as though I should dress appropriately for this grey day in my monochrome look. Black & white is such an easy and classy look to work, and you always know that no matter what pieces you combine, it'll look fab! Teaming my black and white look with some gold statement jewellery to add a bit of sparkle and I was all set for my full day in the studio. Absolutely knackered now, 7 hours of toiling really does take it out of you. 

The Little Black Jacket

Breaking onto the fashion scene back in 1910, Coco Chanel had no idea that she would be on the lips of fashionista's all around the world almost 100 years later. Already owning the fashion world in the LBD department, now with Karl Largerfeld at the helm the title of LBJ officially goes you, Chanel. 

Opened today, galleries in London, New York, Paris, Moscow, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Berlin, Sydney, & Taipei pay homage to the creative brilliance of Karl Largerfeld, celebrating Chanel's classic iconic style with the help of former French Vogue editor, Carine Roitfeld.

The Little Back Jacket exhibition displays how one iconic tweed jacket can be styled so many different ways (113 to be exact) to suit all. The iconic photographs feature friends of the House; from model's to actor's, violin virtuoso's to hip hop star's, across all ages from toddlers to pensioners. Versatility has always been a major component of Chanel's philosophy, and Karl Largerfeld truly carries on her legacy, demonstrating exactly that whilst "fashion passes, style remains" creating clothes can truly be worn forever.

In London, the Little Black Jacket exhibition is held at the Saatchi Gallery, as well as being celebrated in the Chanel stores with iconic displays of the new season's 'Little Black Jacket'. Here's a little sneak peak into the wonderful exhibition, celebrating all things Chanel.

This SJP photo is one of my favourite ones of the show, as well as the shot of Milla Jovovich in the skeletal dress - just look at that incredible styling by Carine Roitfeld.

Another perk of this incredible exhibition, is that you get a goodie bag to take home with you.

Stacked in the centre of the room in three triumphant piles are copies of the prints that you can take home. I managed to get a copy of each of the prints, and I cannot wait to recreate my own little Chanel gallery in my room. 

These posters are limited edition and only available from the exhibition so if you want to get your hands on one, get over there quick!

After the exhibition I popped over to the New Bond Street store. Sadly pictures weren't allowed in the store so here are a few snaps of the exterior, which is all dolled up to promote the exhibition, and features some of the new season's jackets.
