New York Fashion Week Day 2

Braving the elements much. 

So it has hardly peaked above -4°C this entire fashion week, which well, is a bit of a bummer. However having persevered with this ferociously bitter New York winter for a few months now, I have developed my skills in layering down to an absolute fine art.

Noone would ever know I had long johns and thermals ontop of my cashmere undies under every single outfit. Oh wait you do now.

Rather than step out in shorts and a big ol' fur (like yesterday's outfit - click here) I opted for a slightly more conservative ensemble channelling a combination of Catwoman and Bob Dylan (who knew they were such a complementary pair). 

What I'm Wearing: SUPERCALAFASHIONISTIC Beanie, Zara Sweater, Versace for H&M Leather Jacket, Aritzia Leather Trousers, La Redoute Clutch & Topshop Boots (& gold socks).

New York style has rubbed off on my somewhat, head to toe black seems to be an option I return to on far too a regular basis. Despite this and donning enough golden studs to set off a dozen metal detectors I head back off to the Lincoln Centre for the Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 show. 

Bumping into my total best friend, yeah I'm kidding, Chiara from The Blonde Salad who is one of the sweetest people ever (click here to view our last event together in NYC) was another great highlight of Fashion Week so far. Together we shivered side by side for another snap together which I posted to Instagram (@georgiabenj) faster than you can say 'cheese'. 

And how snazzy is the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week insta-wall. Packed full of the latest insta-pics with #mbfw tagged to the photo, hidden away inside the Lincoln Centre show space.

Lets not forget to mention the fashion scanner. Rather than physical invites which are of course pretty damn cool, at NYFW you scan the barcode that comes with your email invite and it prints out a little ticket for you with your seat allocation. Gah technology these days. 

Looking forward to another busy day tomorrow, fingers crossed the snow holds off!

First Snowfall

What I'm Wearing: Canada Goose Jacket via Otte, Aritzia Nueva York Tee, Topshop Leigh Jeans & Boots.

The first snowfall in New York. I literally couldn't be more excited. I know it make look as thought there is little almost no snow, but for a girl who comes from a country where even a light dusting shuts down entire train systems, well this is totally awesome. I couldn't be more thankful for my new super snugly Canada Goose jacket from Otte, literally the only thing that keeps me warm in these ridiculous temperatures. 

On the Subway this morning I was reading a wonderful book leant to me by a friend when I came across the most apt quote,

"…there is something nice about working in an office with a candle burning. It's like seeing snow falling outside the window or having a dog snoozing on the carpet beside you"

The super cosy comforts that just make you feel all warm inside. Feeling a little under the weather this weekend, just watching the snow fall outside the window whilst tucked under a blanket watching Christmas movies was just the perfect remedy.

Grey, The Lighter Shade of Black

People in New York wear black. Yes I know that its a bit of a rather bold statement but as far as I can see it seems to be true. Of course slight variations are allowed, grey, light grey and occasionally navy but with a no holding back policy when it comes to accessories. Perhaps it's because it is rather dirty here, and black hides all matter of sins, or maybe because black is just effortlessly chic. Living in New York for the past month it seems to have rubbed off on me. Of course my Topshop Leigh jeans are an absolute wardrobe staple, but I'm totally obsessed with this new Kate Spade Saturday Sweater addition, which is absolutely perfect for keeping me warm in these sub-zero temperatures and it's just oh so cute with it's lurex cuffs. Lets not forget to mention these Dame Edna-esque sunnies from Kate Spade also, channelling Chanel sequin eyebrows whilst protecting my eyes from the UV rays - well could you ask for more?

Tweed Sweater

What I'm Wearing: Zara Tweed Sweater, MissGuided Skater Skirt & Office Flatforms.

Is it correct that black, well, is the new black? You can never go wrong with it. It flatters like everyone and matches with everything. Black is so totally a winner. After stealing this  tweed-esque sweater from my sister thanks Jesse, I couldn't wait to team it with some monochrome accessories for a dinner with the girlies. Found these absolute bargain flatforms in the Office  sale. I am not one for sale shopping in the slightest, elbowing women out the way in order to get your hands on whats about to become last seasons stock - no thank you, I'll pass on that. But popping into my local Office branch to pick up a pair of classic Van's for my Dad I know what a style icon, I spotted these for a mere £8 - ridiculous I know. Black Cap

What I'm Wearing: Karl Tank, Gap Jeans, Nasty Gal Jacket, Nike High Top Dunks iD's & NY Cap from local store in New York.

Despite being on campus far more often than I actually like, its sunny afternoons like this that just make everything look just so beautiful. The warm glow of the sun, and sitting outside to have lunch can only mean one thing, summer is coming. Boy oh boy can I not wait to not have to wear at least 4 layers and just leave the house in nothing by shots and a tee. Heaven. Despite being back in the library this Sunday afternoon I have had a rather wonderful weekend, hope all of you guys have too.

PS. My lovely friend Kassie bought me back this cap from New York, and whenever I have it on, I get a constant reminder of how much I need to get back to the wonderful city. Gotta dream big.

Back To Black

What I'm Wearing: ASOS Gilet & Cold Shoulder Top, Topshop Trousers, Zara Slippers & Celine Bag.

I love colours, prints and stripes, but sometimes you've just got to go black. An absolute fail safe when it comes to fashion, and a mixture of textures is always the way to go. Fur, leather, twill and super fine knit was my choice of the day for a long session in the library before heading back down to London for LFW. I almost died when my Burberry invite came in the post, literally one of the most beautiful invites I have ever seen, laser cutting and Burberry absolute way to my heart! Vogue - Strike A Pose

What I'm Wearing: Karl Alley Vogue Hat from Nasty Gal, ASOS Mongolian Fun Gillet, American Apparel Leotard, Miss Selfridge Jeans & Kurt Geiger 'London Calling' Sneakers.

I literally jumped for joy when the rather large Nasty Gal box came through my door earlier this week containing my gorgeous new 'Vogue' hat & I could not wait to take it out for a spin. Dropping off my brother back at Oxford today, I took advantage of the perfect opportunity to stand out amongst the tweed and chino clad crowd. A couple of complements and odd glances later, I was very glad of my choice of head attire. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect”. Mark Twain has hit the nail on the head with this quote. Sartorially speaking, what is the point of fitting in? It really is great to stand out from the crowd from time to time, don't you agree?

PS. Sorry about being off the blogging radar for a while, had the most obsecene amount of work to complete for my hand in earlier this week. But with very little sleep and way too many expresso's it was all handed in. Now I've got 2 weeks of well deserved R&R before heading back up north to knuckle down again. Let the shopping commence!

Christmas in Cornwall: Day Five

Sadly the weather lived up to its horrific forecast of showers and rain today, so we escaped to the beach to take advantage of the rare few moments when the heavens weren't open. 

Sennen beach is the most westerly beach in the whole of Cornwall with a gorgeous stretch of white sand across the bay. 

We all decided to taunt Harry with the Boxing Day tradition of running into the sea... naked. We were all wrapped up with thousands of layers seeing as the temperature was little over freezing, but Harry can never turn down a dare. Before we knew it, he was stripping off and water bound.

The water was colder than the outside air so apparently "it wasn't that bad", pfff lies!

Seeing as it was Boxing Day, most restaurants in St Ives were closed. We ended up eating at this little beach style restaurant right on the water front with a huge clay oven heating up the whole place. On Shore is a cute restaurant serving all things Cornish as well as a a fantastic list of stone baked Pizza's.

I couldn't wait to show off some of my new Christmas presents. Jesse bought me these gloves which I absolutely adore. Can you just imagine these with my Versace for H&M  jacket (click here), stud heaven! 

Another glorious day with my lovely family, I just love Cornwall at Christmas.
