New York Fashion Week Day 4

Yes I did. I went bare legged again in the godforsaken New York polar freeze. My logic was, that if I walked ran fast enough from the cab/subway to the show space I would be fine. 

Making it all the way over to the West Side to Kenneth Cole HQ we were greated with cookies, donuts, coffee and hot chocolate. As you can imagine the donuts remained pretty untouched. 

They were visually eaten if thats such a thing by almost everyone in the room but zero physical donut consumption took place. If only I was a fan of donuts, I would have jumped straight in there. 

Oh well. Just some coffee to add to my never ending caffeine overload. 

Oh and a selfie station too? Seriously how could I say no!

Heading over the show space it was clear that the Fall 2014 collection and show was all about social media. Hashtag emblazoned walls, projected selfie's onto the exposed brick, after all if, if in doubt, check instagram. 

Having being allocated a seat on the FROW opposite some of my absolute favourite bloggers; Bryan Boy and Trop Rouge to name a few, I was torn whether to watch the bloggers or the collection?! Thankfully phew I had enough of a chance to do both with the show starting somewhat 'fashionably late'.

I've recently discovered this amazing widget to create a scrolling banner of the items or like items that I'm wearing in my outfit posts. Shop Style you really are my saviour. Everything worn in this post are some of my absolute wardrobe staples. Leather jacket, fur gilet and of course my neoprene skirt from & Other Stories which I would actually wear every single day if I could, and literally goes with whatever I put it with (click here). And of course my staple SUPERCALAFASHIONISTIC beanie which I am rarely seen without in the extreme temperatures this New York Winter. The wanted item of all my friends and co-workers, and at only £10, what a steal!

LFW Spring 2014 with New Look

Following the buzz and excitement of this seasons LFW the lovely ladies down at New Look contacted me and asked if I’d be interest in answering a few questions about my LFW experience. So for those of you who couldn’t make it down to LFW this year, here is a little insight in what LFW was like for me. 

How do you feel about the impact bloggers have had on London Fashion Week as well as fashion on the whole?

The growth of fashion bloggers in recent years has revolutionised the industry with fashion bloggers acting as the middle men between the brands and the people. Fashion has reached new levels of accessibility and availability on a global scale through the growth of social media and the increased awareness of the fashion bloggers voice. Through social media, bloggers open a window into fashion week, making everyone feel like a part of it even if they don't make it down to Somerset House.

What collection was your favourite?

So many of the shows were just so fantastic this season namely Ashish, Christopher Kane, and KTZ but the one show that stood out for me this season was Burberry. I attend the Burberry show every season as Christopher Bailey never fails to put on a show worth "stopping work to watch". The Spring 2013 collection was all about corsets and capes and was packed full of classic trench coats in metallic leathers and ombre cottons worn over bodysuits and tailored dresses in such intense colours they just screamed 'wear me wear me'.

What interests you most about blogging?

Blogging offers a platform which breaks down the traditional boundaries of fashion, enabling fellow bloggers and readers to mix with like minded people all over the world. What I love most about blogging is having the opportunity to showcase your own unique point of view on the words fastest growing form of media - social media.

Describe your personal style in 3 words.

My personal style is so hard to pinpoint in just 3 words, as it changes with my mood. Some days I dress like a total boy in vintage Levi's, plaid shirts and sneakers whereas others I'm in a head to toe sequined jumpsuit. So three words is very hard to pinpoint, but if I have to I guess I would have to go for sporadic, urban and sparkly. 

Who is your favourite British designer?

Ever since seeing his MA collection, Christopher Kane has been on the very top of my must watch list. His use of unique fabrics and oh so feminine silhouettes makes me adore each new season collection that little bit more. His smudged watercolour infused collection for Spring 2014 is undoubtedly going to be seen on FROW regulars as soon as his RTW collection hits stores early next year.

For LFW, do you believe heels are a must?

Yes it's true that heels do add that perfect finishing touch to an outfit but with all the running to and from shows, catching up with fellow bloggers and grabbing a coffee any opportunity - heels are not always the most practical. Fashion is no longer dictated by the height of yours heels which was so evident at LFW this year with the infamous Somerset House cobbles being flooded with sneakers, metallic flats and flatforms galore.

What are the favourite key trends for SS14?

After watching this seasons shows, so many trends were evident that we saw show after show some of which I cannot wait to get my hands on. The three favourite trends that stood out for me was of course the metallic fabrics; accessories, jackets and dresses all glistening down the catwalk in their glimmering glory. The next is of course the crop top; already adopted as a key street style trend this has now made its way into RTW making a flash of your midriff now acceptable in everyday wear. Lastly sheer fabrics used for layering; layering up different textures and different opacities of fabrics to completely transform a garment is what makes fashion so fantastic. Throwing a printed sheer blouse over a lace crop top creates a whole new look and certainly stood out as a number one trend at this seasons shows.

What did you enjoy the most about attending LFW?

Fashion week is such an exciting time for designers, buyers, bloggers and fashion folk alike. Mingling with fellow bloggers and fashion advocates on the cobbles is one of my absolute favourite parts of LFW, and bumping into familiar faces you see season to season is such a fantastic part of this fast pace industry.

Sunday's are my favourite day of the week (click here). The one day of the week to catch up with friends, put on your comfiest clothes, snuggle into a deck chair in the garden and delve into that book you been meaning to start all week. This little geddup is my perfect Sunday attire. A boyfriend shirt from yesteryear and this skirt/shorts number from Zara which has been their best seller for the past few months. Who would have thought if you you throw two mismatch flaps over the top of shorts it would fly off the shelves like hotcakes? Oh those designers at Inditex have seriously got it going on.

Sundays are the perfect occasion to do absolutely nothing, which is exactly what I've done a whole lot of today. Catching up on some of my favourite blogs, showing off my new designs on social media platforms and coming up with some styling ideas for my new range of limited editions t-shirts whilst having a massive movie day snuggled under a duvet on the sofa. A pretty perfect Sunday if you ask me. After my first load of tee's (click here) proved to be pretty damn popular all over the world, sending off packages left right and centre, I decided to come up with a new collection of limited edition pieces, which have just hit my online store today (click here). London Blogger Meet Up

On Saturday bloggers, followers and fellow Londoner's flocked to B-Soho for the London Blogger Meet up hosted by the lovely Rose from The Londoner. As soon as I saw the post I couldn't wait to go. It's always great to meet fellow fashion and food obsessives who are also glued to their computer screens. 

Following the impending excitement, the only next step to organise what what on earth to wear?! You'd think that being a rather obsessive shopper and fashion student I would have cupboards bursting to the seams with all my clothing. This is in fact the case, but it certainly doest help when choosing what to wear to a blogging event. After a bit of faffing and running around the house in far too many different choices I decided you can't beat a good oversized sweater and teamed with Isabel Marant wedges and mummy's Chanel, I was in for a winner. 

Kelly and I decided to go to the event together, its always better going to these sort of events knowing you'll have a familiar face there with you. Kelly has an amazing lifestyle blog about all restaurants, travel and her wonderful daily antics (click here to check it out). 

After arriving fashionably late, we were shocked by the amazing turn out. The little Italian lunch spot was bursting at the seams with impeccably dressed gorgeous girlies. 

You all know I'm a foodie (so is Kelly) so of course we headed straight to the bar to get our food fix. 

It was only lunch time but it had to be 5 o'clock somewhere., so from the vast cocktail menu we opted for the 'Vodka Why Not?'. Well, why not?

Browhaus had also come down to be at the event and were offering complementary service to all of the bloggers for a quick brow fix. They are THE experts in eyebrows, and are specialists in brow reconstruction (for all of you who have got a bit pluck-happy) and brow construction to make your brows as beautiful as they can be. I look forward to heading back in a couple of weeks for my next fix.

It was a wonderful event to meet some of the bloggers that I follow so regularly. Hanushka from The Luxury Marionette & Rose from The Londoner were both even more beautiful in real life - goodness knows how that is possible. 

Back up in super snowy Leeds now, this dissertation is going to be the death of me. Looking forward to getting up to some serious yummy blogging escapades when Kelly & I are both back in London. Thank you to Rose for organising a such lovely day. 

Vogue - Strike A Pose

What I'm Wearing: Karl Alley Vogue Hat from Nasty Gal, ASOS Mongolian Fun Gillet, American Apparel Leotard, Miss Selfridge Jeans & Kurt Geiger 'London Calling' Sneakers.

I literally jumped for joy when the rather large Nasty Gal box came through my door earlier this week containing my gorgeous new 'Vogue' hat & I could not wait to take it out for a spin. Dropping off my brother back at Oxford today, I took advantage of the perfect opportunity to stand out amongst the tweed and chino clad crowd. A couple of complements and odd glances later, I was very glad of my choice of head attire. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect”. Mark Twain has hit the nail on the head with this quote. Sartorially speaking, what is the point of fitting in? It really is great to stand out from the crowd from time to time, don't you agree?

PS. Sorry about being off the blogging radar for a while, had the most obsecene amount of work to complete for my hand in earlier this week. But with very little sleep and way too many expresso's it was all handed in. Now I've got 2 weeks of well deserved R&R before heading back up north to knuckle down again. Let the shopping commence!
