Chanel x Supermarket Sweep #PFW

What did Suzy Menkes say to Cara Develvigne at the Grand Palais? Want some Lait du Coco with those Coco Pops?

Karl has seriously out done himself with the setting of his Fall 2014 collection this Paris Fashion Week, transforming the main hall of Paris’ iconic Grand Palais into an entire Supermarket (which should be named Karl-mart). Of course Karl never does anything in half measures, this supermarket had it all: a fruits and vegetable section, canned goods, a liquor isle, and a home improvement department all in witty clever packaging.

Products – conjured up by Stéfan Lubrina – included fit aid kits, “Boite a Bobos de Coco”,  “Boy” hair mousse for men with the tag line “pour rasage peau d’humeur sauvage” and the “So Chic” beaux ballets, naturally the bottled water “Eau du Chanel” took the audience by storm, but it was the Chanel chainsaw that really stole the show with the iconic leather and chain strap of a Chanel bag as the teeth of the not-so-dangerous power tool.

Okay okay enough of the set. This collection was an extension of this couture show earlier this year with the same hourglass feminine silhouette, this time mixed with brightly coloured and metallic tweeds, sweatpants and of course those Chanel sneakers which were extremely welcomed by fans of the house after his show in January. This time taking it a step further and also introducing the low top lace up boot which will no doubt be on many an A-lister’s foot in a matter of weeks.

Adding onto the sporty casual vibe as seen in his last few RTW collections, Lagerfeld adds yet another layer of urban cool with slouchy sweatpants, hole filled knitwear and iridescent leggings.

So now it’s safe to say that the accessories department had a great deal of fun with the collection. Chain metal shopping baskets were crafted from iconic Chanel leather and chain straps and the wheeled shoppers were aptly quilted, whilst fun touches including Chanel candy necklaces and the plastic wrap purse were all delightfully inventive.

“Why a supermarket? It is something of today’s life and even people who dress at Chanel go there — it’s a modern statement for expensive things,” said Largerfeld.  

This collection was a real Supermarket Sweep for Chanel.  

New York Fashion Week Day 1

It would be safe to say that my first New York Fashion Week experience kicked off with a bang. Heading over to Lincoln Centre for one of the earliest shows of the day in nothing but a big old fur coat (well it look as much as my shorts were teenie tiny). 

The fountain filled courtyard is somewhat different to my old stomping ground of the traditional #LFW cobbles. Perhaps it was because it was -4°C with a wind chill of -11, and still yes I was in shorts. Rather than an influx of bloggers, street style mavens and aspiring photographers, the courtyard is not merely full but scattered with the big names in the business. The creme de la creme of this fashion world. Not to name drop photo drop too but I bumped into my absolute favourite fashion duo, The Beckerman Twins. Two gorgeous girlies with the most incredibly fun style I know. If only my twin and I dressed liked Cailli & Sam!

Victoria's Secret Show 2012

Yes. Its that time of year again.

No. Not Christmas. That annual event where both men and women from all round the globe stop in their tracks to watch what can only be described as one of the most coveted and unadulterated events in the fashion calendar. Just a word of warning, if you having a bit of a "fat day" today we all have them, I advise you to stop reading now.

This morning us Brits woke up to social media sites flooded with footage from last nights show. Starting the infamous Victoria's Secrets Angels including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, Mirander Kerr, Karlie Kloss as well as highly deserving  newcomers including  British beauties Jourdan Dunn and the lovely Cara Delevigne, held at New Yorks' Lexington Avenue Armory. The show also featured the delights of performers such as Justin Bieber & Rihanna, who was dressed in an equally as provocative corseted silk dress with lace gloves and strings of pearls - think Audrey Hepburn meets a VS Angel. 

As per usual the show was divided into different parts with intricately crafted one off pieces to fit the goddess like creatures immaculately. 'Dangerous Liaisons', 'Calendar Girls', 'Pink Is Us', 'Silver Screen Angels', and 'Angels in Bloom' were the 5 themes this year with the Angels wearing everything from candy cane wings to native American headdresses. 

The hundreds of thousands of dollars spent, month and months of planning all paid off with the show be an enormous success and reaching in the millions in the twitterosphere. Here are some of my highlights from the show. 

Goodness knows how these women grow up to be this flawless, but I guess they don't give out wings to any old Joe.

4th July

My first ever 4th of July celebration, and what a good one it was!

I am lucky enough to live in Midtown right by the Hudson River which meant that we had a brilliant view of Macy’s 36th Annual 4th of July Fireworks.

Now, this day is a huge day in America as it marks the start of their independence all those many years ago, but is seems as though the celebration is just as important to them as the actual holiday itself. People flocked from all over New York State to line up by the river front to get the best view of the spectacular show.

A mix of friends, a reason to celebrate as well as some amazing fireworks, and before we knew it we had ourselves a roof party. 

Following the fireworks we decided to head on out. Where better to go for a 4th July celebration then to the fantastically debaucherous club, The Box. Stepping into the secluded entrance of the lower east side club makes you do a double take. The decor is like something out of a Horrible Histories book on the Victorian Era. An old ornately decorated theatre, where the stage is surrounded by private booths and sofa’s all with an eclectic and rather naughty edge. Not so much of a club and more of a theatre, we sipped on Moet whilst the first show started.

Now when they say ‘expect the unexpected’ they really do mean it!

We had a full array of performances from ‘The Monkey’ jumping through hoops which were set alight, two girls performing live porn where the sub ended up killing the dom (thank you 50 Shades for enlightening me on the correct terminology), a transvestite punk spitting and urinating off the stage, sky dancers, and even a magician and his glamourous assistant performing a quick change act.

Camera’s are banned inside the club, but I managed to get a few sneaky photos anyway....

The acts change every single night so you never quite know what you’re going to get. Despite the smell of formaldehyde and almost getting peed on I would say that it is certainly an item to be added onto the bucket list. (I recommend going on a Wednesday or Thursday as you are guaranteed a show on those nights)
